The school was established in 1982 and quickly became one of the most elite institutions in the city. Competing with the likes of Army Burn Hall and Abbottabad Public School, Present Times continued it's growth to attract students from all over Pakistan.
Present Times Public School and College is dedicated to providing quality education to children of parents working abroad and those from remote areas of Pakistan, where access to proper educational facilities aligned with contemporary standards is limited. Our philosophy is to bring together children from diverse backgrounds and guide them through a structured, character-building curriculum. This includes effective classroom instruction, comprehensive care in our boarding facilities, encouragement of self-reliance through simple chores, professional guidance in physical activities, and a well-rounded evening program of hobbies, indoor games, and entertainment. This holistic approach aims to channel students' efforts towards rapid and rewarding progress. Recognizing that each child develops at their own pace, we strive to accelerate this development through a carefully planned methodology. The core principles guiding our mission are as follows:
Faculty Excellence: Our faculty consists of mature individuals with high educational and professional qualifications, enthusiasm for their subjects, teaching expertise, sensitivity to student issues, and a conscientious concern for student progress. The administration is equally qualified, providing the necessary guidance for faculty to excel. We prioritize lower class teachers with higher qualifications. Present Times is an equal opportunity employer, committed to affirmative action based on merit, and does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, age, marital status, national origin, sex (with a preference for female teachers in junior classes), or physical disability, provided it does not hinder overall performance.
Individual Attention: We maintain minimal class sizes to ensure teachers can give individual attention to each student, fostering a lasting relationship between teacher and pupil.
Specialized Teaching: The concept of subject-specific teachers is introduced from class one. This allows teachers to become adept in their respective subjects, mastering all related teaching challenges. Consequently, they can set appropriate expectations for their students, promoting learning through adequate stimulation and exertion.
Comprehensive Supervision: We provide 24-hour supervision of students’ behavior across various settings—classroom, boarding house, playground, events, dining room, TV room, and preparatory classes. Immediate correction is implemented to help students recognize their mistakes and develop into civilized, honorable members of society.
Extracurricular Activities: Sports, both outdoor and indoor, along with co-curricular activities such as speeches and contests, are integral to our program. These activities foster discipline, team spirit, cooperation, public speaking skills, clear expression of ideas, and adaptability in diverse situations.
Controlled Environment: The roles of home, society, and school are crucial in the overall mental development of a child. We aim to create a controlled environment where the influences of home and society are minimized to avoid adverse effects on the desired development. Day scholars are admitted based on their ability to fit into the school’s special environment without bringing negative societal influences.
In summary, our policy is to make every effort to equip each child with initiative, drive, discipline, respectfulness, personal hygiene, cheerfulness, and other qualities essential for success. Our goal is to prepare students to achieve any objective they set for themselves and to "Never Give In" when facing life’s challenges.
At Present Times Public School and College, we take pride in fostering an environment that promotes the holistic development of our students. One of our cornerstone programs, Just-A-Minute (JAM), is a testament to our commitment to nurturing critical thinking skills in our students. JAM is a dynamic and engaging activity that enhances both verbal and non-verbal critical thinking abilities, equipping students with essential skills for academic success and beyond.
Verbal Critical Thinking Skills
The Just-A-Minute program is designed to challenge students to think quickly and articulate their thoughts coherently within a minute. This exercise requires participants to speak on a given topic without hesitation, repetition, or deviation. By participating in JAM, students develop several key verbal critical thinking skills:
Quick Thinking: Students learn to organize their thoughts rapidly and present them logically, which is essential for effective communication.
Clarity and Precision: The time constraint forces students to be concise and precise in their language, improving their ability to convey ideas clearly and accurately.
Confidence: Regular practice in speaking before an audience boosts students’ confidence and reduces anxiety associated with public speaking.
Argumentation and Persuasion: JAM encourages students to form coherent arguments and persuasive narratives, enhancing their ability to influence and engage listeners.
Non-Verbal Critical Thinking Skills
In addition to verbal skills, JAM also cultivates non-verbal critical thinking abilities, which are crucial for comprehensive communication and problem-solving:
Body Language: Students become more aware of their body language, learning how gestures, facial expressions, and posture can support and enhance their verbal message.
Listening and Interpretation: JAM participants develop keen listening skills, as they must pay close attention to the speeches of their peers to avoid repetition and maintain originality in their responses.
Emotional Intelligence: Engaging in JAM helps students recognize and interpret the non-verbal cues of others, fostering empathy and improving interpersonal interactions.
Adaptability: The spontaneous nature of JAM teaches students to adapt their non-verbal communication quickly in response to the reactions and feedback of their audience.
Holistic Development
The Just-A-Minute program at Present Times Public School and College goes beyond traditional classroom learning. It integrates critical thinking with communication skills, creating a robust framework for the intellectual and personal growth of our students. By participating in JAM, students not only enhance their academic abilities but also prepare for real-world challenges where quick thinking, effective communication, and adaptability are key.
